Use storytelling to build a better life!
People with more social connections are happier and live longer. But according to Census Bureau surveys, people are spending less time with friends and more time along, which has intensified the sense of social isolation and loneliness (listen for more from PBS here). As someone who has spent my entire career storytelling, I can tell you with confidence, that becoming a better storyteller will enrich your life in a multitude of ways.
One of my core values is that every single human being on this planet has stories you tell. Everyone possesses wisdom gained through unique life experiences.
Your stories are a beautiful gift to the world, because they provide others with a glimpse of what it's like to see the world through your eyes.
One of the easiest ways to inspire yourself to start telling your stories is to remember the gifts those stories are to others. To you, they might seem obvious or boring, but to someone else they possess a life lesson, an acknowledgement, a gratitude, etc. Stories are the vehicles that bind us together as humans which is why they serve as an excellent to build connection with others.
So if living a long, healthy, and rich life is dependent on connections and connections are built through story-exchange, it's time you start telling your stories.
Watch the video below for more on why I believe storytelling is a worthwhile and powerful investment to make your personal and professional life vastly better and learn about some of the neuroscience that shows how we are physiologically wired for connection.
Happy Storytelling!
